How To Restrict Shipping By Product

Control which countries or regions products can ship to using zones and product settings.

Does your store sell perishables, restricted, HAZMAT, or dangerous products that cannot be shipped to certain regions? With Intuitive Shipping, you can restrict the geographic regions your products ship to directly from the product settings.

 

How It Works

More often than not, you’ll use Scenarios and conditions for product restrictions. However, if you have specific products that can never be shipped to certain countries or regions, it’s easier and more reliable to manage this through product settings.

The key is to ensure those products cannot ship to the entire parent zone. For example, if you have zones for Canada, USA, Mexico, and the UK, and some of your products cannot ship to the UK, simply select your UK zone in those products’ settings. This way, customers in the UK will be blocked from checking out as long as the restricted products are in their cart.

This method is best when restrictions are strictly geographical, such as preventing items from shipping outside certain boundaries. If your restrictions are more complex than zones, such as allowing ground but not air service, you’ll need to create a controlled product shipping method with product conditions in your Scenarios.

 

'Do not ship' settings for products only work with parent zones. If you need to block products from being shipped to subzones, which are based on postal codes or ZIP codes, you’ll need to use Scenarios with product conditions, and in some cases, you may want to use a 'no shipping method'.

Restrict Products From Zones

1. Click Products on the sidebar menu.

2. Search for a product by scrolling through the list or by filtering the list, then clicking the filter button.

You have three (3) filtering options to choose from:

  • Filter by product title - type the full or partial name of the product, then hit Enter.
  • Filter by type - select a product type from the drop-down list.
  • Filter by vendor - select the product vendor name from the drop-down list.

3. Click Edit beside a product you wish to restrict.

4. Scroll down to Shipping settings, then click Show additional shipping settings.

1. Select one or more zones you want to exclude for the product. When a zone is selected, customers with a shipping address in that zone will not be able to complete checkout unless they remove the product from their cart.

Each product should be able to ship to at least one zone.

KB Technical Support NewRestrict shipping settings ('Do not ship to regions') don't prevent shipping calculations from other rate sources outside of Intuitive Shipping.

If you’re using rates from other sources - such as Shopify, BigCommerce, or another third-party rate calculator - alongside Intuitive Shipping, products with ‘restricted’ zones selected won’t be blocked from receiving rates from those other sources. Intuitive Shipping cannot block or override rates provided by your eCommerce platform or any third-party service.

 

Save Your Settings

1. Click the Save button to save your product settings.
